Army OneSource
We’re proud to announce that National Association of Social Workers, Oklahoma Chapter is collaborating with Army OneSource, a community outreach program supported by the U.S. Army, to raise awareness of the unique challenges of Military life on our Service Members and their Families, and address the growing demand for behavioral health services. Our formal campaign will be launched at the upcoming 35th Annual State Conference.
For those of you attending the conference, stop by the campaign booth to pick up information on this growing public health issue and sign up to participate. The campaign is offering a series of online courses—at no charge--to help primary care physicians, case workers, mental health providers, and other professionals - who may see a veteran or family member on an unrelated issue - develop a better understanding of the culture in which Veterans and their Families live and work. These courses also provide best practices for identifying, assessing, and treating mental health problems that result from the trauma of war.

NASW-OK Day at the Legislature!!!
150 Social Work Students and Practitioners came together at the Oklahoma State Capitol on March 10, 2011 for the annual NASW-OK Legislative Day. Participants were given excellent information regarding advocacy by Sandra Harrison from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Mary Jo Kinzie, chair of PACE-OK also related information to those in attendance regarding the efforts of PACE-OK in getting officials elected to office who reflect the values of professional Social Workers. Senator Constance Johnson ended the morning with an inspiring talk regarding the importance of social workers and their involvement in the politics of Oklahoma. After a box lunch catered by Ingrid's Kitchen, the participants went and observed in the galleries of both the House and the Senate and then many of the participants went and visited with the elected officials from their home districts. The day was quite educational and hopefully strengthened the voice of social workers across Oklahoma.
